The hotel entrance itself is very conspicuous with a bright red door and from the minute you enter it, you are transported to a magical land full of surprises. The welcoming and courteous attitude of the staff makes you feel special and the whole ambience which borders around simplicity truly bowls you over.
Consisting of seven beautiful rooms which include a suite, the décor in this hotel follows the Japanese philosophy of “Ka-Cho-Fu-Getsu”, thus leading to the creation of four types of rooms, Flower, butterfly, wind, and moon. The décor followed in these rooms are traditionally Japanese in nature and makes use of genuine Karakami paper which is manufactured by the Karacho shop. This particular shop that is about 4 centuries old is the only one of its kind which produces original Kyoto Karakami paper. All the rooms are spacious enough and filled with antique pieces that are sourced out personally from various areas by the owner, Hisako.
The Flower, which happens to be the only suite of this hotel, has a very impressive bed area that is enclosed in a magnificent bamboo screen, lending a very peaceful and romantic touch. Some of the rooms offer a wonderful view of the Shirakawa River which flows along calmly, as well as the Higashiyama Mountains that stand proudly erect in the distance. All rooms are attached with excellent bathrooms that are fitted with the most modern accessories. Complimentary toiletries and stuff like slippers, robes, razors, hair dryers, etc are provided. Ironing boards are available at request and so are umbrellas.
The Mume Boutique Hotel is actually run to perfection by Hisako, who supervises all the activities. Guests are treated to a lovely breakfast which consists of fresh fruit, yogurt, warm rolls and croissants with accompaniments. The afternoon tea and biscuits are complimentary and so is a cold drink from the bar prior to your meal. The lack of any in-house restaurant is aptly compensated by the proximity of various eateries nearby that cater to wholesome and tasty food. The management effectively guides the guests as to various sightseeing and shopping expeditions too.
